False memories again

This is making me crazy at the moment. I've wrote before how I keep thinking I may have done something inappropriate with children in the past even though I don't believe I really did it I have all sorts of intrusive thoughts about it and my big problem is that I keep the intrusive thoughts could be memories. My whole ocd and anxiety are based around these intrusive thoughts because I keep thinking they may be memories and I am guilty of doing bad things. My psychiatrist told me to just think 'I've done nothing wrong' but this doesn't help. Does anybody else have any tips how to differenciate between real memories and intrusive thoughts or do you just have to accept all the thoughts and think I did nothing wrong. Thanks

I think the best step for you is to start committing to not thinking about it, even if you're not at all confident that nothing was wrong and nothing happened. Basically, to take a leap of faith and be okay with not ruminating about it. You don't have to convince yourself of anything, just don't keep going on and on about it. Easier said than done, of course, but the less you argue in your head about it, the weaker it becomes, and eventually this will become a trivial enough issue in your life that it won't really matter.

You need to stop paying attention to these thoughts. They are only misfiring signals in the brain and their content is meaningless. Do not question these thoughts. Just accept them as OCD.

Thanks for the advice folks. I was at my psychiatrist today and he said that I will just have to start accepting the thoughts. This is very hard for me to do but I will try.

I have the same POCD fears, but I don't have kids. I fear, "What if I did something inapropriate durring a drunk black-out when I was a teenager that I don't remember. Then I go back and forth trying to prove all the reasons this didn't happen. Now I am doing a strategy that I got from www.ocdonline.com When my mind says, "What if you did that? I answer, "Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. Time will tell" Then live with the uncertainty
