time alone makes OCD worse?

Have you guys noticed that when you by yourself that your OCD gets worse? I suffer from a couple forms of OCD (including hocd). I've started varsity and my OCD has become pretty much nothing or something i can handle, but then when I come home it kind of triggers. As you know varsity is full of guys and I couldn't give a sh!t about them, they just there, all I can think about are the women that are there. So maybe I should get out more cause I'm a loner. Anyway I just wanted to know does your ocd get worse when you byself? Thanks

I have gradually trained myself to stop thinking the OCD type thoughts and I have found that the times when I have to control it more are when I'm by myself. I think when I'm with other people it distracts my attention more so.

I thought that staying away from people and going out would help my ocd get better with time. i was wrong. As i started to socialise more it started to gradually get better, my anxiety has pretty much gone but i still have it occasionaly but i just let it be there. Just dnt try and fight the thoughts and just accept that you are having them. Let me know how you do splifler

I'm by myself at the moment and am having a hard time; it's definitely more difficult when I'm alone. Have decided to do something productive with my alone time, however, and am setting up an OCD practise schedule!

mine is worse at work..

I sit in a cube all day and work on the computer and talk on the phone.. I can get really bad sometimes. When I go home to my wife and the dog I do alot better.. I sometimes find myself at work typing things that don't have anything to do with what I want to type. I think this is because I am stuck in my mind all day and not in the present moment...

When you are with people and having a good time your focus and concentration are elsewhere. Whereas when you're alone, it's just you and your thoughts. But in order to beat this thing you shouldn't avoid being by yourself. In fact if being by yourself makes your uncomfortable with your OCD then I would be by yourself whenever you could to overcome it! I had the same issues when I was dealing with Harm OCD. I didn't want to stay home alone with the kids for fear that I would do something. But I did it anyway and the fear quickly faded!

I do a lot better when I am around friends or at school. I will occasionally go out with friends and have a few drinks. For some reason, when I am at a bar or a club and have been drinking(responsibly ofcourse), my OCD fears are not as strong. As everybody allready knows, if you are at one of these places, you are constantly bumping into people and bumping into people is normally something I try to avoid due to my contamination OCD. I'm not sure why this is the case. When I am by myself, I think my OCD is worse because I have more time to think about it. I live by myself and that leads to depression which I think fuels OCD

Hi msparker,

Yes I can relate to your OCD getting worse when you're alone with your thoughts. I always feel better if I'm doing things, even if I am scared of doing them to begin with because I think 'what's the point if I'm just going to have a load of OCD thoughts?' but then I do it and I almost always get to feeling a bit better.

perr.
