OCD and intelligence

I did research online pertaining to OCD and it said that there is a theory that people who suffer from OCD have above average intelligence. The reason why it is a theory is because it has never been tested whether or not OCDer's are smart. I wonder if this theory is true because I have heard some members of the board talk about how OCD can be tied to higher intelligence.
Besides OCD, I have read somewhere that some psychologists believe that highly intelligent people are more prone to mental illness. I do not know exactly how they come up with this hypothesis. But I believe that the fact that OCDer's tend to have more complicated thinking patterns than normal people suggests that intelligence is required for complicated thinking patterns.
I have a friend who has ADD. He's the same age as me,19, but he's really really smart. He is very articulate, argues very well, and has great oral skills. He's not good academically though because he never done his homework or studies. But I know he's smart because of the way he talks and responds. My friend also has a IQ around 138 which is pretty good. I don't know what my IQ is. I've taken it but don't remember the score because I took it when I was very young. My mom told me that the IQ for me was high, but she forgot as well.
The reason why my mom paid a person to test my IQ was because I was placed in special ed. Ignorant people tend to perceive special ed kids as unintelligent which I think is very mean and not necessarily true.
I suffered from OCD almost all my life and I bet most of you also had it most of your life. It would be really nice if the theory holds true that OCDer's on average tend to be above average in intelligence.

Yes statics show that people with OCD tend to have higher intellingence and morales than other people.
Having higher intelligence and moarales does'nt neccesarily mean you will have oCD but are but people who are smarter and more mrale tend to be the majority of OCD sufferers.
I was told through testing while serving in the US Navy that I rank about 120 on the IQ scale or Mensa.
I suck at math though I have no idea why. [^]

Statistics show this? Which statistics? I've never been able to find any. I'm sure it's something that we would all like to believe, but I have yet to see any evidence other than theory. Since it was brought up, apparently my IQ = 163 as of September 8th, 2006. It was a very mathish test, though.

Have you ever heard someone talk about the irony of life or life's little ironies.

My I.Q. is 147 and my father's was 152 we both have ocd.
However, i think in 50 years there will be a new more spiritual addition to today's critical thinking skills. In this i believe we will find that ocd isn't just intelligence but intuitive related.
It is both intuitive and intelligent to recognize the fallibility of humans and consciousness as well as having the ability to see the cycles of everyday things.
I have theorized that ocd is a battle between the intellectual recognition of the material world around us and the intuitive insight about what's under the surface.

just my two cents. Enjoy

Jesus, i was also put into special ed classes. Despite how much I enjoyed reading Curious George, I was given the iq test and then prompty bumped straight up to the advanced classes. lol American systems geesh

Quadratic,
i here ya. I was given the IQ test without even being told what the test was for. Wish I did, would have tried harder. I wasn't interested in the test at the time. But i do better with remembering all the words I know that start with A kind of thing. I also like the puzzles to piece together. It isn't real accurate anyway. It's only really good for postulating how well a child is learning.

My wife has an IQ of 152. Mine is about 10. She does NOT have OCD and I do.

I guess there are always exceptions.

Gunner, do you actually have the statistics you spoke of? I wanted to see them if you have them, since it seems to me like this theory is all just rumour.

Quadratic,
He said it is a theory becuase it has never been tested.
It is likely that this "theory" is more of a hypothesis.
That may be why you have a hard time finding anything about this.
